Additional Training Conditions For Physical Skills Training

Unless due to negligence trainers and course designers cannot be held liable for any injuries which may result during the course. However, individuals must be aware of their own responsibilities to themselves and others with regard to issues of safety.

Unisafe trainers will make every attempt to ensure the comfort and safety of participants. Unisafe techniques have been carefully selected and developed to ensure the safety of all involved, however during the learning process minor injuries such as scratches, bruising, muscular tension etc. may occur.

You should not attempt any physical de-escalation techniques which you feel may cause you discomfort or could in someway compromise your own or someone else’s safety.

You will have explained to you all of the skills you are asked to practice. In addition all physical de-escalation techniques will be demonstrated to you on at least two occasions prior to practice. If you feel that any technique is inappropriate for you to attempt please raise the reasons for your concerns with a trainer. No Unisafe trainer would wish or require you to do anything which might for whatever reason compromise your well-being or that of someone else.

If you have any doubts about you health or fitness to complete this programme you should inform your line manager and seek advice from your own doctor.

Participants with a wide range of physical ability can easily undertake the Unisafe training programme. If you have any concerns please discuss them with your line manager who will be aware of the programme content and should be familiar with the day to day operational demands on you.

You must use only those physical techniques and exercises (including warm-up and relaxation exercises) provided within the Unisafe programme whilst participating in the programme.

Everything that you are taught has been carefully considered and evaluated, you should not use other approaches or skills learned in another setting whilst you are participating in the programme. It is possible that participants may be skilled or accredited in other areas, e.g. martial arts, control and restraint or have experience of aerobics warm-up exercises etc, whilst participating in the programme only Unisafe approved skills and techniques are permissible. This requirement is an essential safeguard for all involved.

Participants should wear clothing suitable for physical activity

  • Clothes should be loose and comfortable
  • Button up tops and low necklines should be avoided as they may cause accidental exposure during practise resulting in embarrassment for all concerned.
  • Skirts should be long (at least past the knee) and able to maintain decency while sitting or lying on the floor.
  • Clothing should if possible be in layers to maintain comfort at different temperature
    levels.
  • Trousers or jeans should be reasonably loose so as not to cause discomfort or restrict movement.
  • Shoes should be flat, comfortable and should have all round contact with the foot to avoid accidental loss. Trainers are ideal, flip-flops backless shoes or Shoes with a built up heel should be avoided.
  • Jewellery if at all possible should be left at home. Items such as large dangly earrings, large rings and neck chains are not appropriate in the training room.
  • Rings should be removed or covered if at all possible, this particularly applies to thumb rings as they can cause injury to the forearm during training.
  • Wristwatches should not be worn during training as they restrict the movement in the wrist and would constrict the wrist during any accidental impact of the hand.
